Skincare with Purpose: The Journey Behind Dermalist

My journey into the world of aesthetics began over 27 years ago with a personal experience that would quietly shape the rest of my career.

As a young woman undergoing surgery, I was deeply concerned about the potential for visible scarring. In my search for answers, I discovered Low-Level Laser Therapy — still in its infancy in Australia at the time — and experienced firsthand its ability to improve skin and self-confidence. The results were more than cosmetic; they were deeply emotional. From that moment, I was hooked.

From Law to Laser

In 1999, a pivotal moment arrived. I met a doctor who was using laser to treat hirsutism. Watching his work — and witnessing the incredible impact it had on people’s psychological wellbeing — sparked something profound in me. I changed direction completely, leaving my path in business law to work with him as a Business Development Manager. That decision changed the trajectory of my life.

Over the next two decades, I immersed myself in dermal science and cosmetic technology, not only studying but building businesses. I became co-owner of a group of high-end laser and dermal clinics, and was privileged to lead and educate a team of dermal therapists, nurses and doctors — all passionate about helping people feel more confident in their skin.

When Skincare Didn't Measure Up

Throughout those years, I kept hearing the same frustrations from both practitioners and clients:

  • “Why is active skincare so complex?”

  • “Why does it take so long to see results?”

  • “Why do I have to use 6–7 products to get a real effect?”

  • “Why is there so little transparency in what actually works?”

Those questions led me back to the lab — this time as a formulation chemist. I wanted to create something different: intelligent, luxurious skincare that delivered clinical results with less time, fewer products, and no compromise.

A New Philosophy: Intelligent, Multifunctional Skincare

Dermalist was born from that philosophy.

Each formula combines the equivalent of 5–6 clinical-grade products in one — not by throwing everything in, but by engineering complementary actives that work together, not against each other. That means fewer preservatives, less interference, faster results, and better barrier support.

The range also reflects our modern understanding of skin stress and inflammation — two of the most overlooked root causes in almost every major skin condition, from ageing and pigmentation to acne and sensitivity.

This science is personal. My sister lives with Multiple Sclerosis, and through supporting her I developed a deep respect for the power — and danger — of chronic inflammation in the body and skin. It taught me that healthy skin isn’t just a surface goal — it’s a systems goal.

Championing the Industry

Beyond formulation, I’ve always felt passionate about lifting the standards of the aesthetic industry itself. Technology is evolving rapidly, yet regulation, education, and perception haven’t always kept up.

That’s why I’m honoured to serve as CEO and Board Member of ABIC – The Aesthetic & Beauty Industry Council, working alongside leaders to advocate for meaningful change. Together, we aim to protect and uplift the professionals who change lives through this essential work.

Skincare That’s Bigger Than Skin

Dermalist isn’t just skincare. It’s the result of decades of clinical experience, scientific curiosity, personal transformation — and a refusal to settle for "good enough."

Our goal is simple: deliver visible results, reduce complexity, and elevate skin confidence. We believe everyone deserves skin that reflects how vibrant, strong and radiant they feel inside.
